"Micro- and nano-scale surface functionalization by multi-beam laser processing“
As part of a research project running to March 2018 (within the framework of the BMBF-funded measure “The Basis of Photonics: Functional Surfaces and Layers”), the companies Schepers GmbH + Co. KG, Saueressig GmbH + Co. KG, EdgeWave GmbH and Heidelberger Druckmaschinen AG as well as the Fraunhofer Institute for Laser Technology (ILT) are collaborating with LIMO to investigate the use of laser light to generate functional surfaces or layers as well as to develop entirely new fields of application. The aim is to use high-precision, reliable and efficient laser tools to improve the properties of standard materials as well as to create new properties or indeed materials for resource-saving industrial usage.
The sub-project entitled Multisurf investigates the base technology required for the industrial implementation of a multi-beam processing head for ultrafast parallel microprocessing using an ultrashort pulse laser. The goal is to achieve high efficiency in beam separation, in modulation of the individual beams and transmission of the beamlets to the processing layer.
