"Process optimization of roll-to-roll production of new, highly efficient organic photovoltaic cells"
The aim of this research project, which is part of the lead market competition EnergieUmweltwirtschaft.NRW, is to optimize innovative technologies for the cost-effective and highly productive production of flexible organic solar cells. The necessary processes were developed in the previous projects Flexlas (2012 - 2015) and PhotonFlex (2016 - 2019). The focus now is on the qualification of new organic materials with higher efficiency levels and the use of environmentally friendly solvents.
In addition, a highly efficient laser-based drying process based on a line geometry is integrated into the roll-to-roll system. Here it is important to match the laser line and the process parameters to the organic materials and solvents.
Other laser-based processes that are optimized are scribing with a multifocus system and encapsulation of the photovoltaic cells. Additional analysis systems and control cameras that enable fully automated plant control are implemented to achieve an industrial manufacturing process.
These technologies are intended to provide the machine manufacturers based in North Rhine-Westphalia with powerful processes and system components to enable them to play a pioneering role in the market for flexible solar cells and printable electronics.
