"Photonic process chain for manufacturing flexible organic solar cells in a roll-to-roll process“
COATEMA Coating Machinery GmbH, the Ruhr-Universität Bochum (Chair of Applied Laser Technologies), the Fraunhofer Institute for Laser Technology ILT and Ortmann Digitaltechnik GmbH have paired up with LIMO in a research project to study and develop innovative technologies for the cost-effective high-output production of flexible organic solar cells. The collaboration comes as part of the "EnergieUmweltwirtschaft.NRW" lead market competition initiated by the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia for its energy and environmental economy cluster. The project is centered around the use of laser-based methods in high-density circuitry and the productive application of highly efficient laser-based drying processes. In addition, new encapsulation solutions based on plastic laser welding will be prepared and tested for use in high-rate processes.
These technologies will give machine manufacturers throughout North Rhine-Westphalia access to powerful techniques and system components that will allow the companies to play a pioneering role in the market for flexible solar cells and printable electronics.
